Brian Seddon
For the last 18 years, Brian has been, and still is, an operational Mounted Police Officer for Greater Merseyside Police, with particular responsibility for selecting and training all new horses to become fully operational Police horses, which, in the context of policing a metropolitan area like Liverpool city centre, poses extreme challenges for them, because of the environment and the tasks they are required to carry out. Brian also has responsibility to coach new officers from the start of their career as a mounted officer, to ensure that they work effectively in partnership with their horses.
In addition to this, Brian also runs the hugely successful equine solutions consultancy, which aims to help riders with problem horses overcome their difficulties and establish rewarding, enjoyable relationships with their four legged friends. The sorts of issues he encounters include hacking problems, loading problems, “unrideable” and /or unmanageable horses, and increasingly his expertise is being sought by people needing help with either backing youngsters or rechooling and retraining racehorses, and as he is qualified to apply for a racing trainers licence, it is easy to see why he has a particular affinity with thoroughbred ex – racers.
As well as bespoke consultancy, Brian is also a riding instructor offering instruction in a variety of disciplines, from beginners to Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing at all levels, and utilises his unique insight and understanding of both equine and human psychology, to help clients progress in their desired discipline. Brian is also on the BHS Approved Register.
As if that weren’t enough, Brian also has experience in riding in Point to Point races and regularly rides out at a number of different racing yards, including regular riding and schooling for Ginger McCain at Colmondeley (famous of course for Grand National Winners Red Rum and Amberleigh House).
Recent projects include working with Caroline Putas, of Enjoy Riding, to deliver workshops for riders with confidence problems, coaching at BHS and Active Rider ™ Horsecamps, and working with All4horses TV.
In his spare time Brian writes a monthly column for the Equitrader magazine - the Northwest’s top free equestrian publication - in which he offers free help and advice to readers on all aspects of riding and horse care.
Brian is pictured riding at Windsor as part of the 'All the Queens Horses' celebration to commemorate the Queens Golden Jubilee in the presence of Her Majesty.
