BHS Progressive Riding Tests- Knowledge, Care and Riding

 

These tests are equivalent to BHS stage 1.

 

Every Tuesday Night. Time 7pm-9pm

 

Roll on Roll off weekly courses £25 per week for a 2 hour session which includes one hours riding and one hour care.

 

The Progressive Riding Tests (PRT’s) are divided into six modules. All six modules have equitation and stable management sections, both of which can be taken separately. Each syllabus has a number of elements that need to be signed off by the instructor as the learner is ready to be assessed. On the successful completion of each module, we will issue you with a certificate.

 

When you successfully completes all six tests, you will be immediately eligible for direct training and entry into the BHS Stage 2 examination.

 

Please note the maximum weight for riders is 13 stone (riders will  be weighed at our discretion).

 

 

BHS Horse Stage 1- Knowledge, Care and Riding

 

Every Tuesday Night. Time 7pm-9pm

 

Roll on Roll off weekly courses £25 per week for a 2 hour session which includes one hours riding and one hour care.
This qualification will provide the holder with the competencies to apply basic principles of horse care. Working under supervision, the holder will have basic knowledge and practice of looking after a well-mannered horse in the stable and at grass. The holder will be capable of riding an experienced horse or pony in an enclosed space.

 

Holders of the Stage 1 Horse Knowledge, Care and/or Riding Certificate will be able to progress to BHS Stage 2 Certificate in Horse Knowledge, Care and/or riding, however all candidates will require their BHS riding & road safety exam as a pre-requisite to stage 2. The Stage 1 certificate is recognised in its own right and provides a benchmark standard to employers. It is also a component part of the British Horse Society Assistant Instructor Certificate

BHS Horse Stage 2- Knowledge, Care and Riding

 

 

Roll on Roll off weekly courses £25 pw for a one and a half hour session which includes 45 mins riding and 45 mins care.
This qualification will provide the holder with competencies to apply general principles for the management of horses’ health and well being. Working under regular but not constant supervision, the holder will be able to care for stabled and grass kept horses during all seasons of the year. The holder will be able to ride an experienced horse or pony in the countryside and on the public highway as well as in a manege or indoor school.

 

Holders of the Stage 2 Horse Knowledge, Care and/or Riding Certificate will be able to progress to BHS Stage 3 Certificate in Horse Knowledge, Care and/or Riding. The Stage 2 Care Certificate is also recognised as a qualification in its own right and is a technical certificate for the Equine Apprenticeship and Additional and Specialist Learning (ASL) for the 14 – 19 Environment and Land Based Diploma. The HK & R Stage 2 is a pre-requisite for the BHS Preliminary Teaching Test and is a component part of the BHS Assistant Instructor Certificate.

 

TAKE BACK THE REINS

 

Every Thursday at 7pm-8.30pm & Sunday at 2pm-3.30pm

 

ADULTS ONLY- A RIDING COURSE FOR RETURNING RIDERS
‘TAKE BACK THE REINS’ at Carrington Riding Centre
It’s never too late to rekindle or discover a love of horses, pick up that journey and enjoy riding………….So, what is it?
It’s a series of horse riding lessons providing group coaching, specifically designed to support your first steps in order to get you into the saddle. It will help you develop your skills and progress within the sport, making sure you have fun along the way.
Horse riding is a hobby for people of all ages and abilities so there’s no need to use the excuse “I’m too old!” or “I’m not good enough”.
Come and join us for our next course (call for dates).
The lessons will be made of half an hour horse preparation, 40 mins riding and preparing horses for return to the stables and 20 minutes social (tea & biscuits) to get to know your fellow riders and chat about experiences.
The cost per session is just £20 (payable in advance)

PARENT & CHILD CLASSES

 

Every Saturday at 2pm & Sunday at 1.30pm

 

Ever fancied having a go? Come and ride with your child for half an hour for just £13 each!
Suitable for beginners or just off the lead riders

PTT (Preliminary Teacher Training) Course

 

Every Tuesday Evening 

 

Would you like to learn to be a horse riding instructor?

 

Then join us in our Brand New Teacher Training Course (BHS Preliminary Teacher Training)

 

Each session will last for 2 hours and will take place at 7pm on an  evening weekday 

 

 

Only £25 for a 2 hour session

 

 

Estimated Timescale – 14 sessions

 

This is a qualification where candidates are provided with the skills and knowledge to coach riders of varying abilities from the beginner

through to the more experienced rider on the flat and over fences. The coach will be able to plan, deliver and evaluate the coaching

session. Working unsupervised, the coach will create a positive and safe environment in which learning can take place. It is a high

quality qualification which encourages development and progression, targeting professional equestrian coaches within the recreational

and active leisure industry.

 

Candidates must show that they have the required qualities and can apply the basic principles of teaching/coaching, for example

manner, voice, control, rapport. They must also show they have the ability to improve their riders’ horsemanship and horsemastership

using a progressive plan.

 

They must know the safety procedures and principles involved in the organisation of a lesson or hack in the open country or on roads.

They will be expected to ensure that all teaching/coaching is relevant to the riders and their horses and that they are experienced

enough to modify sessions to facilitate this. They should be able to evaluate their own performance and show the ability to assess

progress in their pupils.

 

Candidates will be required to give a class lesson which may include poles/jumps, a lunge or lead-rein lesson, a lecture presentation, join in discussions and answer questions on various topics detailed below.

 

 

The qualification is assessed through external, independent assessment and will test candidates’ skills and knowledge. EQL requests

that candidates treat the Assessors, Exam Centre staff and fellow candidates with courtesy and respect, are neatly turned out and

have a common sense approach throughout the examination. In all sections handling of the horses is important, candidates must be

aware of the horse’s behaviour and character and handling must be safe and efficient at this level. Candidates must appear confident

and will be expected to demonstrate competent use of time.

 

Age Requirements

 

This qualification is suitable for candidates in all age ranges, however there is a minimum age of 18 years. Candidates must also be a

Gold or Junior Gold member of The British Horse Society. Candidates who wish to book in for the THEORY only units can do so at the

age of 16.

 

Training and Learning

 

Training should be via a number of methods including formal learning, practice and revision. The number of credits and guided learning

hours will help candidates and their trainers to gauge how much training and preparation they will need. Each credit equals 10 hours of

learning time.

 

 

BRITISH RIDING CLUB

SUITABLE FOR RIDERS & HORSE OWNERS
Carrington Riding Centre is approved as a BRITISH RIDING CLUB and is able to provide accredited courses for adults who want to improve their riding and care skills and have a social with likeminded people at the same time.
This Club is open to HORSE OWNERS too who will be welcome to bring their own horse to the sessions.

 

The cost is only £25 for a 2 hour session and will include an hour’s riding in every session. Coffee and cakes will be provided after every session to enable you to interact with your fellow riders.
This is a great opportunity to belong to an established and recognised riding club as well as achieving recognised qualifications. Have fun and learn both at the same time.
